Kenya's Acting National Treasury CS Ukur Yatani announced that primary results of the 2019 census exercise will be released after three months.
On August 22, 2019, Yatani stated that an in-depth analysis of the population is expected to be ready within one year.
"The basic reports of the census are expected to be released within six months," he said during a press conference.
Yatani noted that preparation activities, including personnel recruitment, are complete, and officials are adequately trained and dispatched to their designated areas.
129,123 enumerators will cover conventional households, while 9,000 will cater to restricted areas such as prisons.
Yatani further noted that the government has set up a communication centre to relay information on an hourly basis.
"The information collected will be collected with utmost confidentiality in conformity with the UN fundamental principles of official statistics and as stipulated in the Statistics Act 2006," he added.
Yatani revealed that the total budget for the exercise was Ksh. 18.5 billion, spread across five years, with the highest allocation going to remuneration of personnel.
The census, which kicked off on Saturday for one week, will be purely digital, with Yatani stating that the devices to be used were manufactured by two local universities.
