On August 22, 2019, a devastating road accident occurred along the Bomet-Narok Highway, claiming the lives of five people, including two children.
The accident involved a 14-seater matatu belonging to Egesa Shuttles, which was traveling from Nairobi towards Kisii.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the matatu attempted to avoid a head-on collision with another vehicle, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and roll.
One person died on the spot, while four succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at Longisa County Referral Hospital in Bomet East.
Bomet Central Sub County Police Commander Musa Omari confirmed that the driver was among the injured and was in a stable condition.
Omari stated that police were waiting for the driver to be discharged so that he could record a statement on the incident.
He also mentioned that those injured were being treated at Longisa Hospital, while two others were referred to Tenwek Mission Hospital for specialized treatment.
Omari commended members of the public for their swift response and assistance to the victims at the scene.
