Uhuru Ends Public Commemoration of Mzee Kenyatta

On the 41st anniversary of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's death in 1978, President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta visited his mausoleum to pay their respects.

During the visit, the President made a significant announcement, stating that this year's celebration would mark the end of a long-standing tradition.

According to the President, after consulting with the family, it has been decided that there will be no more public memorial services for the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

Published on August 22, 2019, this decision brings an end to decades of public commemorations.
