On August 21st, 2019, Francis Wangusi's second and final term as Director General and CEO of the Communications Authority of Kenya came to an end. He had led the regulatory body since 2012.
Under his leadership, the Communications Authority of Kenya achieved significant milestones, including the switch from analog to digital TV broadcasting. This move increased competition in the broadcasting industry and played a key role in promoting innovation in all sectors of the economy.
Ms. Mercy Wanjau, a commercial lawyer, has been appointed as the Acting Director-General with effect from August 21st, 2019. She was previously the director of Legal Services at the Communications Authority of Kenya.
Ms. Wanjau has consulted with PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) Kenya and KPMG South Africa. Confirming her appointment, CA Chairman Ngene Nguku stated, “We are confident that Ms. Wanjau has what it takes to coordinate the duties relating to the Director General’s office in the interim pending the appointment of a Director-General on a substantive basis.”
