On August 22, 2019, residents of Muguga in Thika East barricaded and lit bonfires on the Gatuanyaga-Munyu road, demonstrating against what they term as being neglected by the Jubilee government.
Despite overwhelmingly voting for the regime, they claim to see no fruits of their labor, having woken up at 4am to install President Uhuru Kenyatta as President.
The discontent is not limited to Muguga, as residents from other areas in the Mt Kenya region have also expressed similar sentiments, citing that all the mega projects launched by the Jubilee government in the region are either incomplete or stalled.
Residents from these regions say they are not seeing any benefits from the projects, which has led to widespread discontent and protests.
