Published on August 22, 2019, billionaire mogul Simon Gicharu shared a remarkable story of how he turned rejection into success.
Mr Gicharu, the chairman of Mount Kenya University, one of the largest privately owned institutions of higher learning in East and Central Africa, revealed that he had applied for a lecturer's job at the now-defunct Inoorero University (formerly Kenya School of Professional Studies) but was rejected.
However, years later, he returned to the university and bought its building, as he shared in a tweet captioned with the #WednesdayMotivation hashtag.
“Ever been told by a potential employer, ‘don’t call us, we will call you’? I have, severally. At the School of Professional Studies, where I sought a teaching position, I walked away crestfallen. Several years later, I went back and bought their building,” Mr Gicharu tweeted.
Mr Gicharu's journey to success is a testament to his hard work and determination. Born to peasant farmers, he attended Kiawairia Primary School and later Gatiruini Secondary School. He then proceeded to Kenyatta University, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Education Science (Honours) degree.
Today, Mr Gicharu is a prominent businessman and serves as chairman of several organizations, including the Rural Electrification Board, Rural Energy Corporation, and National Private Universities Owners of Kenya. He is also a board member at Thika Water and Sewerage Company.
