Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has expressed doubts about the club's chances of winning the Premier League title, citing a significant gap between them and top teams like Manchester City and Liverpool.
Published on August 22, 2019, Parlour's comments come after Arsenal collected six points from their opening two matches against Newcastle United and Burnley.
Parlour, a former Gunners player, thinks the club should focus on qualifying for the Champions League, which they missed out on last season.
"I heard a few shows yesterday saying we can challenge for the league, but they’re a million miles away from Man City and Liverpool at the moment, if I‘m honest," Parlour told TalkSport.
He added, "They’ve started well with a good away win at Newcastle and they got the job done at the weekend against Burnley, but really they are two games they were expected to win, so I’m not getting carried away."
Parlour's comments have sparked debate among fans and pundits, with some tipping Arsenal to challenge for the title this season.
The Gunners will face Liverpool in their next Premier League clash on August 24, a match that could see them move to the top of the league table with nine points.
