On a recent visit to the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Embakasi, Kenya Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani praised the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for its efforts in modernizing tax administration.

Speaking on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, the CS noted that automation of tax administration functions is crucial in enhancing transparency and efficiency.

He observed that the automation of KRA processes has significantly reduced human intervention in handling cargo from the Port of Mombasa to the ICD and other destinations.

CS Yattani further stated that the government plans to install more cargo scanners and recruit additional Information Technology experts for KRA to further enhance efficiency and reduce cargo clearance timeframes at the ICD.

During his visit, the CS toured the Regional Electronic Cargo Tracking System (RECTS) and Integrated Scanner Management Solution Command Centres at Times Tower, which are a hallmark of KRA's modernization initiatives.

Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner General Githii Mburu attributed the improved performance of Customs revenues to the modernization of tax systems within the Customs and Border Control Department.

He noted that in July 2019, the authority collected over Sh50 billion in Customs revenues, the highest collection ever, and attributed this to the modernization of their systems.
