On August 24 and 25, 2019, the Kenyan government will conduct a census, and to ensure that all individuals, including those in transit, are enumerated, roadblocks will be erected along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

Makueni County Commissioner Maalim Mohammed explained that the barriers will be set up at different towns, including Salama, Emali, and Mtito-Andei, where special enumerators will stop every vehicle to obtain details of people in transit.

Maalim emphasized the importance of capturing the details of truck drivers and other travelers, stating, "There will be roadblocks so that even truck drivers who do transportation along the highway at night have their details captured together with other travellers."

Additionally, police officers will be deployed to accompany enumerators in areas prone to human-wildlife conflict, including Kiboko, Kaunguni, Mikululo, Kalembe Raha, Kiu, and Muuni in Makindu sub-county, as well as Kikunduku, Kathekani, Nthongoni, parts of Masongaleni, and areas bordering Tsavo East and Chyullu national parks in Kibwezi sub-county.
