On August 21, 2019, a rare mishap occurred on the Japanese "Shinkansen" bullet train, which is renowned for its world-famous safety and punctuality record.
The Tokyo-bound Hayabusa No. 46 train was traveling at 280 kilometres per hour when the conductor noticed a warning light indicating that the door of the ninth carriage was open.
According to East Japan Railway, the conductor checked the carriage and found that the door was completely open, with 340 passengers on board.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, and the train resumed its journey after a check-up.
The incident occurred after a janitor mistakenly left the carriage door unlocked, allowing it to be manually opened and closed.
East Japan Railway has apologized for the incident and pledged to take steps to prevent it from happening again.
Japan is a pioneer in high-speed rail networks, celebrated for their punctuality and safety measures, including the emergency stop system, which can automatically slow trains down before a major earthquake strikes.
