On August 21, 2019, Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja faced arrest orders from the DCI and KRA over alleged unremitted tax worth Sh14 billion.
However, Karanja dismissed the allegations as 'pure malice' and a 'new war' by her competitors, just two weeks after launching the KB lager.
Speaking on phone, Karanja stated, "Am shocked by the new allegations leveled against me, my husband and Keroche Breweries and this is pure malice," she said.
She questioned the timing of the arrest orders, suggesting that the move was meant to intimidate her.
"This is a vendetta war launched by my competitors and am ready to face the taxman and the DPP to prove my innocence," she said.
Although Karanja admitted to having a dispute with the Kenya Revenue Authority over rates for their Vienna Ice drink, she clarified that the issue of the Sh14b unremitted tax as claimed by the DPP had never been raised with them.
