Published on August 21, 2019, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has warned of imminent demolition of buildings in Diani that pose a risk to aircraft and local residents.
Security officials and experts are contemplating bringing down the mushrooming commercial and residential buildings around the Diani airport and flight paths in Kwale deemed to be risky for aircraft and local residents.
Kwale county commissioner Karuko Ngumo confirmed that negotiations were underway between the county government and building owners to have them demolish the structures themselves.
"We are on discussions, the negotiations have brought all the stakeholders on the table before we ponder next move," the county security chairman told The Standard.
Earlier, a supervisor of a building under construction near a mosque and at flight path was arrested for supervising the construction of a building that had reached the fifth floor instead of the 2nd floor as per regulations.
