On the night of August 24/25, 2019, the Makueni County government will be setting up roadblocks along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway to ensure all travelers are enumerated during the national census.
According to Makueni County Commissioner Maalim Mohammed, the roadblocks will be located at Salama, Emali, and Mtito-Andei towns, and will be manned by police officers and special enumerators.
The enumerators will stop every vehicle plying the highway to obtain details of people in transit, including truck drivers who transport goods along the highway at night.
Maalim also announced that drinking joints in the area will be required to close their businesses by 6 pm on the night of the census, and that anyone who defies this directive will be arrested.
