As of October 1, 2019, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has instructed employers to pay their employees using the new KSh 1,000 notes.

The CBK made this announcement on its Twitter page on August 21, 2019, warning that employees who are paid using the old KSh 1,000 notes after September 30, 2019, may face difficulties in using the money.

According to the CBK, employees who are paid using the old notes after the deadline will not be able to use them after October 1, 2019.

"When paying your employees, ensure that you provide them with the new notes. Do not give them old notes that will be useless after September. Remember, they will not be able to use the old KSh 1,000 notes after October," the CBK tweeted.
