On August 20, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei at his home in Elgon View Estate, Eldoret, Uasin-Gishu County.
The arrest came after a video emerged of Senator Cherargei warning Deputy President William Ruto's critics of unspecified consequences if they continued insulting him.
The remarks were allegedly made during the funeral of the late teacher Dominic Kiptoo Choge at Lelwak in O'lessos.
Senator Cherargei warned that supporters of DP Ruto were 'marking and profiling' those opposed to his 2022 presidential bid and were prepared to take action.
DCI had summoned the politician for questioning over the remarks, which are considered inflammatory, but he failed to appear.
On Tuesday, DCI sleuths camped outside his home for hours before he was apprehended and driven to Eldoret Central Police Station.
