On August 21, 2019, a shocking twist emerged in the divorce case between former Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and his ex-wife, Mercy Kaimenyi. Kitany, Linturi's current wife, told the court that Linturi may have forged the divorce papers against his then-wife to woo her.
Kitany wants the court to summon DCI officers to shed light on an alleged fake divorce case. She claims a report by the DCI showed that the signature on the document was that of Linturi.
Linturi allegedly used the fake document to convince Kitany to marry him when he was still married to his second wife. Kitany also revealed that she only saw the marriage certificate this year, despite having a divorce document in her house showing that he had filed for divorce.
Kitany further alleged that Linturi brought a Nissan Xtrail as a gift to his mother-in-law on the day of the traditional marriage in Nandi. The vehicle was registered in Linturi's company name, Atticon, and its ownership has not been changed to date.
During the court proceedings, Linturi's lawyers opposed a question on the consummation of marriage on the night of the customary ceremony.
Kitany also told the court that it was after they got married that people saw a change in him, specifically in his grooming. She said, 'I cooked good food for him and took very good care of him.'
Kitany took part in all of Linturi's campaigns in 2017 and even hosted Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi in her home with his wife to strategize on how to win the elections.
The case will resume on August 28.
