Retired Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki visited Parliament buildings on February 9, 2020, to view the body of his predecessor Daniel Arap Moi, who had died the previous day. The former leader's convoy arrived at 11:35 a.m. and departed at noon, with his family requesting media restrictions on live coverage of the visit.

Civilians were temporarily excluded from viewing Moi's body as Kibaki approached. After paying respects, Kibaki met with Moi's sons Gideon and Raymond before leaving. Claims that Kibaki's mobility issues influenced the request were refuted by images showing him upright and engaged during the visit.

Social media reactions highlighted mixed public perceptions of Kibaki's reemergence. Journalist Saddique Shaban urged greater transparency about the former president's well-being, while others praised his style and privacy preferences. A user noted, "Kibaki is truly not a public person," reflecting his long-standing aversion to media scrutiny.

Moi, who governed Kenya from 1978 to 2002, transferred power to Kibaki in 2002 during a historic Uhuru Park ceremony. Kibaki, who left office in 2013, had largely avoided public appearances since then. His presence at Moi's lying in state marked a rare public moment, with some observers calling for greater visibility while others respected his privacy.

Despite the media restrictions, Kibaki signed the condolence book on February 8, 2020, and his visit underscored the complex dynamics between Kenya's political leaders. A statement from Kibaki's office acknowledged Moi's role in advancing political pluralism, citing his 2002 transition of power as a landmark in Kenyan democracy.
