On August 19, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Mau Summit area, Molo sub-county, where a Form One student at Mau Summit Secondary School took his own life.

The student, reportedly, was involved in a quarrel with his brother over a cow grazing in a maize field. The brother, Salim Langat, had asked the student to watch over the cow, but this request did not go down well with the student.

According to a report, the student became furious and threatened to hack his brother with a panga. The brother was rescued from his sibling, who then untied the cow and ran away with the rope.

Relatives and local residents gave chase, but due to the heavy rains, they lost him along the way. It was later informed that the student's body was found dangling on a tree.

Confirming the incident, Sarambei Sub-Location Assistant Chief, Joseph Ngeno, termed it as unfortunate. He urged parents to maintain constant communication with their teenage children to prevent such incidents.
