At just 16 years old, Karun was thrust into the spotlight as a member of the popular Kenyan pop group Camp Mulla. But in a recent interview, she revealed that the fame that came with being part of the group was suffocating her.
Speaking to a local daily, Karun explained that she felt overwhelmed by the pressure to perform and the constant scrutiny of the public eye. She said that she was unable to experiment or make mistakes, as she was already seen as 'that girl from Camp Mulla.'
“I was tired of the fame. It was stifling me. I couldn’t make any mistake. I couldn’t experiment. I couldn’t really find out who I was or who I wanted to be because of people’s eyes I was already that girl from Camp Mulla,” the Standard quoted Karun.
According to Karun, Camp Mulla was going through a rough time behind the scenes when they received the BET nomination, which only added to her stress. Despite the challenges, Karun has gone on to achieve great success, being named in the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list in 2019.
