On August 21, 2019, former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo was released on Sh200,000 bail after allegedly threatening to kill a city businessman over a parcel of land.

Ndolo, along with his co-accused Daniel Otieno, is engaged in a vicious fight with businessman Rashid Hamid, director of Richland Properties Limited, over the land.

According to reports, Ndolo and Otieno allegedly threatened to kill Hamid on August 16, 2019, at Bustani Gardens on Oledume Road.

It is alleged that they created a disturbance by forcefully breaking into the gates of Bustani Garden, intimidating and kicking out security guards from the premises.

Ndolo's lawyer told the court that the ex-lawmaker suffered health complications while in police custody, which led him to be taken to Nairobi West Hospital where he was diagnosed with high blood pressure.

As a result, the police officers released him on a bail of Sh50,000 to seek medical attention.

However, Ndolo's attempts to raise the bail money were desperate, as evidenced by a leaked recorded conversation between him and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

In the conversation, Ndolo is heard begging Sonko to bail him out following his arrest at the weekend.

Sonko responds by telling Ndolo that he deserves to be in jail for breaking the law.

Here is part of their conversation:

"Ndolo: Utawacha mimi nilalae kwa cell na mimi ni ndugu yako bwana?"

"Sonko: Hakuna cha udungu kazini. Ile kitu naweza kukufanyia, wacha niende KFC nikubuiye kuku uleetwe."

"Ndolo: Ndugu yangu, wewe ni mdogo yangu, unaweza kuniambia hivyo?"

"Sonko: Mimi naangalia kazi. Wacha uletewe kuku, ulale cell kesho upelekwe kotini. There is no one who is above the law."

The conversation between the two continues a little longer before Ndolo realizes that Sonko has no intentions of helping him.
