On August 11, 2019, Kelvin Ochieng left his home in Nairobi's Chokaa estate, assuring his wife Miriam that he would return in time for lunch. However, he never showed up, and it was not until a relative broke the news of his shooting that Miriam learned of his fate.

According to Brighton Ochieng, Kelvin's brother, Kelvin was shot by a fellow reveller at a bar near their home while playing pool. The shooter, who is said to be the bodyguard of a former governor, pointed at all those playing pool and shot Kelvin, killing him.

Despite the severity of the crime, the police have yet to charge the suspect, insisting on conducting further investigations. The family is also concerned that the suspect is receiving preferential treatment at the Ruai Police Station, including access to a phone.

When The Standard sought a comment from the investigating officer, he declined to comment on the matter.
