On August 20, 2019, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Kibra branch chairman, Jeckonia Onyango, called on the party's National Elections Board to ensure a free and fair nomination process for the upcoming Kibra by-election.
Speaking on Tuesday, Mr. Onyango warned party officials against imposing a candidate through direct nomination, stating that such a move would inevitably lead to the party's defeat.
He emphasized that the party's nomination process would give voters a chance to exercise their democratic right and choose their preferred candidate.
Mr. Onyango's comments come ahead of the party's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday to strategize on how to pick the ideal candidate.
Over 20 ODM Party aspirants from Kibra constituency have already expressed interest in the seat, indicating the high level of competition in the by-election.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had gazetted November 7, 2019, as the day for the Kibra Parliamentary by-election.
