Gavana Anne Mumbi Celebrates Arrest of Businesswoman Josephine Kabura Over NYS Scandal

On August 19, 2019, Gavana Anne Mumbi celebrated the arrest of her former employee, businesswoman Josephine Kabura, who was accused of being the mastermind behind a KSh 971 million scandal involving the National Youth Service (NYS) in Kenya.

According to reports, Kabura was accused of being involved in a money laundering scheme where she allegedly transferred funds between different bank accounts, resulting in a loss of KSh 791 million between 2014 and 2015.

During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence that the suspects had used the stolen funds to purchase cars, land, and luxurious houses, despite knowing that the funds were stolen.

On October 1, 2018, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, ordered a fresh investigation into the scandal following the disappearance of KSh 791 million from the NYS youth fund.

According to Haji, Kabura had provided false evidence in 2015, claiming that she was working at the time. However, an investigation revealed that she was not employed by the NYS at the time.
