On August 20, 2019, Del Monte Kenya Limited (DMKL) responded to allegations of water contamination, denying any wrongdoing.

The company emphasized its commitment to quality and safety, highlighting its measures for treating water and identifying potential hazards during production processes.

According to a statement, only 13% of Del Monte's pineapple plantations rely on overhead irrigation using water from the Athi River, with the majority of water sources being rainwater dams, reservoirs, and ponds.

DMKL also stated that it conducts regular residue analysis for heavy metals and pesticides on produce from all fields that are harvested.
