On August 20, 2019, just 10 minutes before his tragic death in a car accident on Thika Road, the late Benga maestro John Mwangi Ng'ang'a, alias John De'Mathew, left a lasting message to the Mt. Kenya region and aspiring musicians.
De'Mathew, who was also regarded as the Agikuyu seer and prophet, emphasized the importance of unity and humility among musicians, urging them to humble themselves in order to succeed in life.
He also spoke about the need for the Kikuyu community to support the change of constitution to establish the Prime Minister's position, saying it would benefit all communities, including the Agikuyu.
De'Mathew stressed that the Prime Minister's seat would not belong to ODM leader Raila Odinga, but to all the communities, and that should Mr. Odinga clinch the Premier's seat, a time for him to leave would eventually come.
He warned that if the Prime Minister's position was not established, the winner-takes-all situation would prevail, leading to post-election violence, and that the seat was good for the country.
De'Mathew's best friend, Gilbert Baba, alias Maina Baba, revealed that they did not know that De'Mathew was bidding them goodbye when he spoke about the issues, and that 10 minutes after leaving them, they received the sad news of the tragic accident.
