Published on August 20, 2019, Kenya Railways has added more coaches to the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) passenger service between Nairobi and Mombasa to meet high demand from travelers.

According to the corporation, five more coaches have been added to the Nairobi to Mombasa morning train and the Mombasa to Nairobi afternoon train, for four days from August 19 - 22, 2019.

This move follows high demand from travelers wishing to use the Madaraka Express, which has been fully booked during the August school holidays.

Kenya Railways has steadily increased coaches on the Nairobi-Mombasa route since the SGR passenger train service was launched in June 2017.

During the holiday season, the corporation has been adding more coaches to meet the high demand for travel between Nairobi and Mombasa.

Kenya Railways currently offers two commuter train trips in each direction daily, up from one initially.

Passengers pay KSh 3,000 on first-class coaches and KSh 1,000 on economy-class coaches.
