On August 20, 2019, Football Kenya Federation officially unveiled Francis Kimanzi as the new Head Coach of Harambee Stars, replacing Sebastien Migne who had departed a week prior.

According to Nick Mwendwa, the Federation's chair, the change in tact was attributed to the success of local coaches in the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations.

As the new Head Coach, Kimanzi expressed confidence in his technical bench, led by Kenya Premier League side Head Coach Zedekiah Otieno, to handle the task ahead.

Under Kimanzi's leadership, Harambee Stars will participate in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matches, a period he will be in charge for two years.

Meanwhile, despite the withdrawal of KPL's title sponsors, Mwendwa remained optimistic that the 2019/2020 Season would proceed as planned.

Separately, Gor Mahia defender Joash Onyango was recognized for his outstanding performance in the 2018/19 season, earning him the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Most Valuable Player award.
