On Saturday, a disturbing incident occurred at Chuka Police Station in Tharaka-Nithi County, leaving a junior police officer with a fractured leg.
Constable Samuel Ndung'u, a dog handler, had visited his senior colleague to discuss work-related issues when he was allegedly pushed out and kicked, causing him to fall on the stairs and suffer the injury.
According to Ndung'u, he had gone to explain that he had not taken the dog on patrol the previous night due to the dog's illness. However, his senior colleague began pushing him out and kicked him with his right foot, resulting in a fractured knee cap.
Ndung'u was assisted by civilians who had visited the station following the arrest of their relatives and witnessed the incident.
He was rushed to Chuka County Referral Hospital, where further examination revealed the extent of his injury, and it was recommended that he undergo surgery to repair the broken knee cap.
Currently, Ndung'u is receiving specialized treatment at Tenri Hospital in Embu County.
He has appealed to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to intervene and ensure that he receives justice.
However, Tharaka Nithi County Police Commander Charles Mbatu has stated that the incident has not been reported, and he has promised to follow up on the matter.
Chuka Sub-County Police Commander, Joseph Kavoo, has denied receiving any official information on the alleged attack, despite a phone call from the senior officer.
