On Thursday, a tragic incident occurred at a dowry payment ceremony in Rodama village, Kieni West sub-County, Nyeri County, where four people lost their lives due to suspected food poisoning.
According to Nyeri Assistant County Commissioner Samuel Kariuki, the four victims passed away after feasting at the ceremony.
The victims included the mother of the groom and two other in-laws, as well as a resident of Rodama village.
Several neighbors who attended the ceremony were treated at Kariminu dispensary for stomach problems and diarrhea, while the groom was also hospitalized at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where a cholera diagnosis was ruled out.
Investigations into the incident have been launched by the police to determine the cause of the food poisoning.
