On August 20, 2019, a piece of American history went under the hammer in an auction, with former US President Barack Obama's high school basketball jersey number 23 selling for a staggering KSh 12 million ($120,000).
Obama, a self-proclaimed basketball enthusiast, wore the jersey during his senior year at Punahou School in Hawaii, where he led the 1979 state champion boys' varsity basketball team to victory.
The jersey, which was worn by Obama as a guard, was previously owned by fellow Punahou alum Peter Noble, who only discovered its significance when he spotted Obama wearing the same jersey in a Sports Illustrated article.
According to CNN, Noble had worn the same No. 23 jersey while a member of the junior varsity team, unaware of its connection to the future US President.
