Published on August 20, 2019, Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru has made a shocking claim about the death of popular Kikuyu benga singer John DeMathew.

DeMathew, who thrilled fans with his songs, died in a tragic road accident along Thika Road on Sunday evening, leaving the country in a mourning mood.

Waruguru believes that a 'mganga' (witchdoctor) was behind DeMathew's death, claiming that the person has a history of holding grudges against people from the Mount Kenya community.

'We know that he has always held grudges against people from the mountain. He must have a hand in DeMathew's death,' Waruguru said.

DeMathew was hailed as a cultural champion but was also criticized for his ethnically profiling songs, with one of his hit songs being interpreted as an attack on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
