January 9, 2018, marked a disappointing day for those who had pinned their hopes on the judicial system in Kenya to deliver justice in the Nairobi Governor's election.

Following the Supreme Court's decision to uphold President Uhuru Kenyatta's October 26th election, many had lost faith in the system, especially when it came to high-stakes cases like the Governor of Nairobi.

However, the petition against Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was not just any ordinary case. The petitioner, Mr. Japheth Muroko, had alleged that he was ready to present evidence in court but received a threatening call from an unknown person who warned him of dire consequences if he proceeded with the case.

According to the affidavit, the petitioner reported the incident to the Kilimani Police station, but the court's decision to strike out the case with costs awarded to the governor and the corrupt IEBC has left many questioning the judiciary's integrity.

It appears that petitions around important seats have become a lucrative business in Kenya, with the petitioner's allegations painting a different picture of what transpired in this case.

As the judicial system in Kenya continues to face scrutiny, one can't help but wonder what informed the court's decision in this case.
