On Saturday, a disturbing incident occurred at Chuka Police Station in Tharaka Nithi County, leaving a police constable with a fractured leg. According to Samuel Ndung'u, a constable and dog handler at the station, he had visited his senior officer to explain a few issues concerning the department when he was allegedly pushed out and fell on the stairs, causing the injury.
"I just went to his office to explain that I had not gone to patrol with the dog that night since it was unwell but before I could do that, he started pushing me out and kicked me using his right foot when I fell on the stairs causing a fracture on the right leg. We have never had any problems with him before," Ndung'u narrated.
Fortunately, members of the public who witnessed the incident took Ndung'u to Chuka County Referral Hospital. He visited the hospital again on Monday morning, and after further examination, an orthopedic surgeon recommended that the knee be operated to fix the broken cap. Ndung'u has since been transferred to Tenri Hospital in Embu County for specialized treatment.
When contacted, Tharaka-Nithi County Police Commander Charles Mbatu stated that he had not received any report on the incident but promised to follow up. Chuka Sub County Police Commander Joseph Kavoo also claimed to have not received any official information on the alleged attack but had spoken to the senior officer on phone after journalists inquired about the incident.
The senior officer denied assaulting his junior, sparking concerns about the incident and the need for a thorough investigation.
