On August 18, 2019, the music world lost a legend when Kikuyu Benga artiste John DeMathew passed away in a road accident. His death has left a void in the music industry, and many are still reeling from the shock.

Among those who have mourned his passing is Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege, who featured in one of DeMathew's hit songs, 'Njata Yakwa' (My Star), as a video vixen.

Speaking exclusively to Mpasho.co.ke, Sabina Chege reflected on her time working with DeMathew, saying that she had seen him grow as a person and in the music industry. She expressed her condolences to his family, friends, and fans, stating that his music would remain in their hearts forever.

DeMathew was a trailblazer in the Kikuyu secular music scene, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians. Some of his notable songs include 'Negereria Kane', 'Mbeu Njithi', and 'Arume Kwina Mbu', which tackled issues affecting the boychild and the community.

His music also addressed the high rate of suicide among the youth, a trend that has been worrying in recent years. DeMathew's prophetic songs, such as 'Muthuri aAikaire Thii', which spoke about John Michuki's prophecy that Uhuru would be the next president, have left a lasting impact on his fans.
