Evangelist William Kasee has sparked debate over the practice of cremation, claiming it is unbiblical and associated with idol worship.

Speaking at the reburial of Charles Kyalo, a Kenya Navy soldier who was buried in Mombasa 50 years ago, Kasee emphasized that cremation is not a Christian practice.

According to Kasee, who has preached the Gospel in various countries including Nepal, India, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and East Asia, cremation is a practice associated with Hindus who are idol worshippers.

He explained that during cremation, the body is burned and the ash is dumped in a river, only to be washed downstream.

‘Cremation is not for Christians. It is done by Hindus who are idol worshippers. When they burn the body during cremation, they take the ash and dump it in a river so that it can be washed downstream,’ Kasee said.

He further stated that the Bible is clear that God created man from dust and to dust he shall return upon death, with no provision for cremation.

Published on August 19, 2019, Kasee's statement has sparked debate, with some prominent Kenyans having opted for cremation in the past, including former Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore and Kibra MP Ken Okoth.
