On August 17, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at Polyview Estate in Kisumu, leaving one person dead and another in custody. The suspect, Daniel Jaoko, a hotel manager at Raygreen Hotel, was detained for seven days after allegedly shooting and killing a matatu driver, Peter Otieno, over a parking space dispute.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 5am when the accused had allegedly parked his car on the estate's driveway, blocking Otieno's vehicle. When the Coast Bus driver asked the hotel manager to pave the way for him, he allegedly drew a gun and fired twice in the air before shooting at him.

County Police Commander Benson Maweu stated that the victim was shot three times on the chest by the accused, who was at the estate to drop his girlfriend. The suspect surrendered himself at Kondele Police Station, where he was detained alongside his girlfriend.

During a search of his house, detectives found 15 rounds of ammunition in his firearm, as well as 42 more bullets. The driver was confirmed dead at Avenue Hospital, where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.

Senior Principal Magistrate Jocelyne Mitey allowed detectives seven days to conduct a further probe into the matter as they also await a postmortem report on the body of the deceased.
