On August 19, 2019, a significant development in the fight against ivory trade took place at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). A 50-year-old Spanish woman, Pich-Aguilera Maria, was arrested for being in possession of an ivory bracelet weighing 0.025g.

According to Kenya Wildlife Service officials, Maria was en route to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, when she was apprehended. She was scheduled to be arraigned at the JKIA Law Court.

This incident comes on the heels of a similar arrest made just a week prior. On August 14, 2019, a French woman, Laazibi Amal, was arrested with an ivory bangle weighing 0.85g. Amal was fined Sh1 million for the offense.

Kenya Wildlife Service has been actively working to combat the ivory trade, and these recent arrests demonstrate their commitment to protecting wildlife.
