Arusha, Tanzania - August 17, 2019
Kenya's Kwanthanze Secondary School launched their title defence on a high note, defeating Rwanda's St Alloys in straight sets in the 2019 East Africa secondary school games.
The four-time East Africa champions, who are seeking to defend their title for a second year in a row, had a relatively easy time dismissing their opponents 25-14, 25-19, and 25-17.
This was the third time in succession that the Kenyans had defeated the Rwandese, having denied them the title in 2017 in Gulu, Uganda, and last year at their own Musanze backyard.
Kwanthanze coach Justin Kigwari expressed surprise at his opponents' failure to turn up for the job, saying, 'This is a team we have had to work harder to beat in the past and I am shocked their game is on the decline. I anticipated a close game but they gave us no challenge.'
The win puts Kwanthanze in a strong position to advance to the last four, and they will face off against home girls Mkalapa High School in their next match.
