Published on August 19, 2019, a writer's observations of Uganda's nightlife stood in stark contrast to what he knew of Nairobi's.

While in Kampala, he noticed the women were well-dressed, with short, trimmed hair, and sipped from narrow-neck bottles. In contrast, Nairobi's club-goers were often seen twerking while drinking Guinness Kubwa and sporting fake hair.

The writer believes that Kenyan women, particularly those in the working class, are striving to be on equal footing with men, but in doing so, they may be losing their feminine touch.

He recalls a scenario in a Nairobi bar where a woman, after drinking several beers, would often initiate physical contact with her male companion, much to the amusement of onlookers.

However, in Kampala, the women were more reserved, politely acknowledging the writer's presence without being overly forward.

The writer wonders where Kenyan women have lost their sense of modesty and decorum, and whether it's a result of their desire to be seen as equals.
