De Mathew, a renowned Kikuyu Benga musician, tragically lost his life in a road accident on Sunday night near Thika.
According to Thika Base Commander Elenah Wamuyu, De Mathew's car collided with a lorry near Blue Post Hotel.
The musician, who was driving alone at the time of the accident, had reportedly attended a harambee held at Metro Bar in support of fellow musician Peter Kigia.
De Mathew was pronounced dead at the Thika Nursing Home.
As reported by Gatanga MP Nduati Ngugi, De Mathew had attended a harambee in support of fellow musician Peter Kigia.
De Mathew's music career was marked by his sensational songs, including the hit single 'Njata Yakwa', which features Murang'a Woman Rep Sabina Chege in its music video.
De Mathew was known to be Sabina Chege's first love, and he even serenaded her in his song 'Njata Yakwa', where he croons, 'You are my star. My happiness is only with you.'
