August 18, 2019, marked a dramatic turn in the Embakasi South by-election as agents affiliated with Wiper candidate Julius Mawathe were arrested for bribing voters.

According to eyewitnesses, the hawk-eyed public and officials from the ODM Party tipped off the police, who subsequently arrested the individuals at a polling station in Pipeline.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna was on the ground overseeing the by-election on behalf of the ODM Party.
