Published on August 18, 2019, a court in Eldoret heard a disturbing plea from five teenage detainees at the local prison.
According to the teens, they are being subjected to unwanted homosexual advances by older convicts, who often approach them at night for anal sex.
The detainees, aged 18 and below, are being held at Eldoret Prison on various criminal charges.
Following their plea, Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Harrison Barasa ordered an investigation into the allegations of rampant homosexual activities within the prison.
Barasa also directed that an age assessment exercise be conducted to determine whether the detainees should be transferred to a juvenile correctional facility.
