Former President Daniel Arap Moi's son, Jonathan Toroitich, passed away recently, prompting a wave of condolences from Kenyan leaders.

However, a delegation allied to Deputy President William Ruto, led by Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, was denied entry to meet Mzee Moi at his Kabarak home on Friday morning.

The delegation, which included Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, and Senator Susan Kihika (Nakuru), was welcomed by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi but was not allowed to meet Mzee Moi.

According to sources, Gideon Moi was uncomfortable with the presence of Kiptis and Kihika, close allies of Deputy President William Ruto, which prompted him to block the delegation from condoling with the retired president.

It is understood that Lusaka had been told not to include Kiptis in his delegation, but the governor had already joined the team, making it difficult to drop him out.

At a place known as Kiamunyi, a few kilometres from Nakuru town on the way to Kabarak, the Lusaka team asked Kiptis to alight from his official car and share a ride with Lusaka into the Kabarak home.

Jonathan Toroitich will be buried tomorrow at his home in Kabimoi, in Eldama Ravine, with a funeral service held at his father's home in Kabarak.
