Kenyan teams made a promising start at the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) games in Arusha, Tanzania, with Kakamega and Dagoretti emerging victorious in their opening matches.
Four-time East Africa rugby 15s champions Kakamega swatted fellow countrymen Kangaru 46-0, while newcomers Dagoretti easily swept aside Uganda's Ntare 60-0 to announce their arrival at the East Africa scene.
Head coach Amos Wamanga of Kakamega expressed confidence in his team's title credentials, saying, 'We have hit the ground running and it was an important win because we played against Kenyans (Kangaru) who have always dominated in this discipline so it means it might be an easy walk this year.'
Victor Wagwe, coach of Dagoretti, emphasized the importance of every game in determining how far they can go in their debut year.
Results from the opening matches include:
- Kakamega 46-Kangaru 0
- Dagoretti 60 –Ntare 0
Other teams, including Mogonga, Lelmwoko, and Cheptil, also participated in the games, with Mogonga defeating LTS Luc of Burundi in straight sets and Cheptil defeating Soweto 3-2 in the girls' contest.
