Published on August 18, 2019, Chinese investors have announced plans to build a Sh853.2 million hotel near the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Embakasi.
The hotel, which will be a six-floor luxury hotel, will host 25 standard hotel rooms and is expected to be a major addition to the area's hospitality industry.
According to an environmental impact assessment audit, the proposed development fits into and integrates well with the neighborhood in terms of height, quality, traffic management, and sustainability in line with existing laws.
The hotel will be located next to the five-star luxury resort Hilton Garden Inn and the Governor Lounge and Restaurant on Mombasa Road.
Consultants for the project have vouched for its feasibility, stating that significant investment has been made in preparing drawings, seeking approvals, and preparing the groundwork.
They noted that it is difficult to find prime land of similar size in the area, and that the investor has already risked more than two years to conduct a feasibility study and acquire a new parcel of land.
The National Environment Management Authority has given Kenyans opposed to the project 30 days to submit written memoranda to help reach an informed decision.
