On August 17, 2019, a suspected motorcycle thief was lynched by boda boda operators in Murang'a after being named as an accomplice in the theft of several motorcycles from Mukuyu market.

The 30-year-old suspect, Patrick Ng'ang'a, was apprehended at the market centre and subsequently beaten to death by the angry crowd, despite the presence of police officers who were unable to intervene.

According to Murang'a East Deputy Police Commander Alexander Muasya, the police had recovered two motorcycles from a hideout in Nairobi, which were hidden in a garage using a tracking device.

Additionally, a vehicle that was stolen at Mukuyu market centre on Wednesday was also recovered, and two suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday.
