Kenyan Basketball Teams Shine at East Africa Secondary Schools Games

Kenya's basketball teams made a strong start at the East Africa Secondary Schools Games, with Laiser Hill Academy and Dagoretti High School emerging victorious in their opening matches.

On Sunday, Laiser Hill Academy defeated Don Bosco from Tanzania 65-34 at the International School of Moshi, while Dagoretti High School edged past College Marie Reine from Rwanda 53-49 at St Constatine International School grounds.

Laiser Hill Academy's Brans Nzioka scored 14 points, and Douglas Kivati added 10 points to their tally. Don Bosco's Anthony Oscar scored 15 points in a losing effort.

"It was very important that we win the first match to set the pace in our group which is equally competitive," said Laiser Hill Academy coach Anthony Kirimi.

Other notable matches saw Lycee de Kigali of Rwanda beat Kibuli Secondary School from Uganda 62-44, and Kaya Tiwi from Kenya go down fighting 66-58 to arch-rivals St Mary's Kitende from Uganda.

St Mary's Kitende's Yvonne Akello was the top scorer with 15 points, while Kaya Tiwi's Yvonne Atieno scored a game-high 18 points.
