Awiti disclosed in a public statement on October 30 that he no longer requires constant assistance, though he remains under medical supervision. His recovery follows a prolonged hospitalization in Germany, where he sought specialized care for vision-related complications.
During his absence, Naibu Gavana Hamilton Orata and County Secretary Isaiah Ogwe have assumed temporary responsibilities. The governor's health struggles began in late 2018, when his vision deteriorated, prompting concerns about his ability to govern.
