On August 17, 2019, a tragic discovery was made outside Magharibi Hotel in Kisii, where the body of Peter Magara, a former Jubilee strategist, was found lying on the ground.
Magara, who had checked in with his wife Jane Nyambura Magara at the hotel on Thursday evening, had been experiencing stress in the past week and had sought medication at a private hospital in Kisii.
According to Jane, her husband had stepped out of the hotel at night but failed to return to their room before his body was found outside.
‘We checked in to the Hotel on Thursday evening, but on Friday my husband was exhibiting unusual behavior. He stepped out of the hotel at night but unsuccessfully attempted to start the car engine. He came to the room but unfortunately, I didn’t get to notice the second time he left the room,’ she narrated.
Magara was a key member of the Gusii Professionals Group and had played a significant role in President Uhuru Kenyatta's 2017 election campaign.
The cause of Magara's death remains unclear, with initial inquiries suggesting that he might have developed a psychiatric problem.
As the news of Magara's death spread, condolences poured in from his colleagues and friends, including Dr. Joseph Birundu and Engineer Henry Otara.
Dr. Birundu described Magara as a professional who will be deeply missed, saying, ‘He has left a gap both the family and community level. His professional expertise will be missed.’
