On August 31st, 2019, the Bamburi Rifle Club in Mombasa County will host Kenya's first-ever International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) sanctioned match.
The event, organized by the National Gun Owners Association (NGAO-K), marks a significant milestone in IDPA shooting in Kenya, as none of the previous matches have undergone the sanctioned process.
According to NGAO-K chairman Anthony Wahome, the association is preparing for the world championships and has decided to adopt IDPA standards fully by sticking to international rules and regulations.
There are approximately six courses of fire that the IDPA secretariat has ascertained adhere to the IDPA set standards.
Wahome emphasized the need for regular training, citing the success of some of their members who have been participating in international tournaments in preparation for the African and world championships.
Geoffrey Pesa, a Kenyan shooter, expressed his joy after winning gold in the Marksman category in Alvarado, Texas, USA, with a score of 158.13, defeating approximately 50 competitors.
Reigning IDPA Africa Champion Ian Van der Bank emerged top in both the Southern and Northern Nationals encounters with a score of 159.77 and 164.55, respectively.
Kenyan Daniel Kyalo from the disciplined forces won gold in the law enforcement category with a score of 269.27.
Back home, the Mombasa shooting team is upbeat, saying they have trained well and are ready to take on the Nairobi team on August 31st.
